Treatment for Fibromyalgia

New outcomes data from Swing Care, released last week at the American Academy of Pain Medicine annual meeting, demonstrated the effectiveness of its virtual specialty clinic for the comprehensive management of fibromyalgia over a six-month period.

The research, which was selected as one of the top six abstracts of the meeting,.evaluated patient outcomes from the clinic’s multimodal treatment protocols. It showed significant and sustained improvements in overall well-being beginning at two months, as well as reductions in fibromyalgia severity, pain intensity, and pain interference.

The study involved a chart review of 233 patients with at least six-month follow-up data who received multimodal treatment combining non-opioid pharmacological and non-drug therapies; these included the option of the Stanza, an FDA-cleared digital behavioral therapy for the treatment of fibromyalgia symptoms.

Key findings at six months include:

  • 88% of patients reported improvement in overall wellbeing (measured by Patient Global Impression of Change), with 76% reporting improvement at 2 months.
  • Significant improvements were demonstrated in overall fibromyalgia severity, pain intensity, and pain interference, starting at two months and continuing to improve through to six months.
  • The average Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire-Revised (FIQ-R) total score significantly decreased by 14.9 points, with improvements seen across Function, Impact, and Symptom domains.

“These outcomes suggest that the Swing Care treatment model, using personalized multimodal therapies, can provide meaningful relief for people living with fibromyalgia,” said Dr. Andrea Chadwick, Medical Director at Swing Care. “Guidelines recommend this type of care, but access is severely limited. At Swing, we are ready to set the new standard for fibromyalgia care.”
